The Communication Zone accommodates the core subjects of English and mathematics; however, the zone is now also home to media studies, which has been taught at GCSE level (Years 10 and 11).
At KS3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) students have 2 lessons of maths and English each week (each lesson is 75 minutes in length) and at KS4 (Years 10 and 11) students have 3 lessons a week (also of 75 minutes long). This additional time in English, allows students to cover both the GSCE English Language and GCSE English Literature syllabuses. In maths, it gives more curriculum time for a pivotal GCSE.
Year 11 always have their tutor base in the Communication Zone. This enables specialised teaching staff to deliver maths and English intervention and support during tutor times (8.50-9.10am).
In Year 11, students need to consider their career options. We have a Career’s Guidance officer, Di Featherstone, who will be instrumental in helping students make the right post-16 choices. She can be contacted on [email protected] (although be aware she only works on Mondays and Thursdays).
Tutors will also be assisting students in their post-16 college applications (during tutor times in the morning).
We have a proud record of achievement in our English and maths GCSE results which is down to the hard work of students, staff and parental support. Please do not hesitate to contact the college if you have any concerns or issues.
