Media Studies
Curriculum Intent Overview
The Media Studies curriculum at Iveshead School equips students with the critical and creative skills necessary to navigate the media-saturated world. Through the Eduqas framework, students analyse a range of media forms—print, digital, film, advertising, and more, exploring concepts like media language, industry, audience, and representation. This enables them to understand the powerful role media plays in shaping public opinion, culture, and identity.
Practical skills are integrated into the curriculum, with students creating their own media texts to apply their theoretical knowledge. In Key Stage 3, students are introduced to media concepts through English lessons, gradually building a foundation for more in-depth study at Key Stage 4, where they analyse set texts such as television dramas, newspapers, and music videos.
The curriculum ensures smooth progression from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, deepening students’ understanding of media theory while developing their production skills. By the time students reach A-Level, they are prepared for advanced analysis and production tasks, equipping them for further studies and careers in media production, journalism, and communication.
Media Studies fosters media literacy, helping students critically engage with the media they consume. It develops skills in collaboration, ethical awareness, and critical thinking, ensuring students are ready to navigate and contribute thoughtfully to the modern media landscape.
