Art and Design

Curriculum Intent Overview

Our Art and Design curriculum at Mowbray Education Trust is designed to nurture creativity, technical skills, and critical thinking. We aim to provide all pupils with the opportunity to explore a variety of media and techniques, combining technical proficiency with imaginative expression.

The curriculum builds a progressive set of skills starting in Year 7, where pupils learn essential techniques in drawing, colour theory, and 2D/3D media. These skills are developed in Years 8 and 9 through themed projects that explore different artistic disciplines and cultural contexts.

At GCSE, pupils refine their skills through research, media experimentation, and personal creative responses, ensuring a balance between technical ability and artistic exploration. Assessments guide progress, with structured feedback helping pupils improve and achieve their best.

The curriculum prepares students for both creative and non-creative pathways by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Pupils graduate with the confidence and skills needed to succeed in a variety of fields, ready to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
