This website is run by John Ferneley College, part of the Mowbray Education Trust.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings

  • Zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen

  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech-recognition software

  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Accessibility Features

  • Responsive Design – The website adapts to a wide range of devices and screen sizes, from desktops to tablets and smartphones

  • Keyboard Navigation – All functionality is available from a keyboard

  • Text Readability – Clear, legible fonts, sufficient colour contrast, and text resizing up to 400%

  • Alternative Text – All images and graphics include descriptive alt text

  • Captioning & Transcripts – Videos include captions or transcripts where available

  • Form Support – Forms include browser autocomplete and accessible validation messages

  • Parents’ Evening Platform – Fully keyboard-navigable and screen-reader compatible, meeting colour-contrast and readability guidelines

  • Clubs & Courses Platforms – Fully keyboard-navigable, screen-reader compatible, and designed to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards


Non-compliance with Accessibility Regulations

John Ferneley College aims for WCAG 2.2 AA compliance but is partially exempt under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. Some content currently not fully compliant includes:

  • Older PDF documents without proper tagging for screen readers

  • Embedded Google Maps may not be fully accessible via keyboard or screen reader

  • Some custom-styled forms may not announce labels correctly to assistive technology

  • Images or videos lacking alt text, captions, or frame titles (these are added when notified)

  • Generic “click here” links or missing table headers, which we will update on request

  • Any text not meeting required colour contrast ratios


Ongoing Efforts

  • Annual Audits & User Testing – Conducted with input from users with disabilities

  • User Feedback – Direct feedback drives improvements

  • Standards Monitoring – WCAG guidelines and best practices are reviewed regularly

  • Third-Party Content – Some external content may not meet accessibility standards; issues can be reported
