History

Curriculum Intent Overview

At Mowbray Education Trust, we believe history is key to developing well-rounded, critical thinkers who can navigate the complexities of the modern world. The study of history equips students with the context to understand current events, appreciate diverse perspectives, and become informed, active citizens.

Our curriculum offers a chronological exploration of British and world history, covering pivotal events like the Norman Conquest, the English Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, and the World Wars. Students develop skills in critically analysing sources, evaluating historical interpretations, and making connections between past and present.

As students progress to Key Stage 4, they will study the AQA GCSE History specification, deepening their understanding of historical concepts like causation, change, and significance. The curriculum is carefully sequenced to build students' historical knowledge and skills, preparing them for future academic pursuits and informed citizenship.

By the end of their studies, students will have gained a rich understanding of history’s relevance to the present, equipped with critical thinking and communication skills to engage with both local and global communities.
