Modern Foreign Languages
Curriculum Intent Overview
Our languages curriculum sparks curiosity about European cultures and equips students with essential communication skills in French, German, or Spanish. The curriculum builds a strong foundation in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, helping students express opinions, justify ideas, and use multiple tenses by the end of Key Stage 3.
We ensure progression through regular assessments, vocabulary tests, and cumulative evaluations, reinforcing long-term retention and application of knowledge. From Key Stage 3, students are gradually introduced to GCSE-relevant vocabulary and tasks, preparing them for the challenges of formal assessments and beyond.
The curriculum is carefully sequenced, enabling students to develop high-quality written and spoken work. By Key Stage 4, students are ready for GCSEs, and by Key Stage 5, they will explore advanced linguistic and cultural concepts.
Through immersive cultural experiences and real-world language applications, students gain a deep appreciation for linguistic diversity, critical thinking, and resilience. Our goal is to nurture confident, open-minded individuals who are prepared to thrive in a connected, global world.
