Personal Development
Curriculum Intent Overview
Our Personal Development curriculum supports students in becoming confident, respectful and emotionally intelligent individuals who are well-prepared for life beyond school. Through a combination of lessons and tutor time, students explore who they are, how they relate to others and how they can contribute positively to their communities.
This area of the curriculum includes Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) as well as statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). Key themes are revisited throughout the school years and include mental health and wellbeing, healthy relationships, personal safety (including online awareness), and life in the wider world. Students also develop their understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion and financial literacy.
Lessons are taught in a safe, supportive environment by trained staff who encourage discussion, reflection and respectful dialogue. The curriculum is designed to be responsive to student needs and is shaped by regular feedback from students, parents and pastoral teams to ensure it remains relevant and meaningful.
By the time they leave school, students will have developed the knowledge, confidence and values they need to lead healthy, happy and successful lives. Personal Development plays a vital role in helping all students make informed choices, build resilience, and understand their role in society — now and in the future.
