Religion, Philosophy and Ethics
Curriculum Intent Overview
Our Religious Studies (RS) curriculum aims to foster respect, tolerance and an understanding of the diverse religious, philosophical, and ethical world views that shape our local, national, and global communities. Through lessons and discussions, students explore key religious traditions, philosophical ideas, and ethical dilemmas, developing the skills to engage with complex issues and form informed, reasoned viewpoints.
The curriculum includes the study of the "Big 6" religions (Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism) as well as non-religious world views such as Humanism. Key themes, including ethical decision-making, moral values and the role of religion and philosophy in society, will be revisited throughout the years.
Lessons are taught in a supportive environment that encourages respectful dialogue, critical thinking and reflection. The curriculum is responsive to students' needs and feedback to ensure it remains relevant and meaningful.
By the end of their studies, students will have developed the knowledge, empathy, and critical thinking skills to engage thoughtfully with religious, philosophical and ethical issues, contributing positively to society and becoming informed, responsible citizens.
