Curriculum Intent Overview

Our Science curriculum inspires curiosity and equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the world around them. Through the study of biology, chemistry, and physics, pupils develop a strong scientific foundation, preparing them for further study and the demands of modern life.

At Key Stage 3, learning is structured around 10 ‘big ideas’ that build core knowledge and develop key scientific skills such as enquiry, analysis, and problem-solving. Practical work is central to the curriculum, helping students apply their understanding through hands-on investigation.

Our curriculum is designed to revisit key concepts over time, allowing students to deepen and connect their understanding. At Key Stage 4, students follow either the combined science pathway or study the separate sciences, depending on their interests and aspirations.

Beyond the classroom, students benefit from enrichment opportunities, including fieldwork and engagement with STEM professionals. By the time they leave school, they will be confident, capable learners ready to navigate scientific issues, make informed decisions, and consider future careers in science and beyond.
