History
Curriculum Intent Overview
At Mowbray Education Trust, we believe that the study of history is fundamental to developing well-rounded, critically thinking individuals who are prepared to navigate the complexities of the modern world. History provides students with the context and understanding necessary to make sense of current events, appreciate diverse perspectives, and engage as active and informed citizens.
Content and Skills
At Key Stage 3, our history curriculum is designed to provide students with a chronological understanding of key events, themes and turning points in British and world history. Through a range of topics which may include the Norman Conquest, the English Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, and the World Wars, students will develop their ability to critically analyse sources, evaluate historical interpretations, and make connections between the past and the present.
As students progress to Key Stage 4, they will build upon this foundation by studying GCSE History. This rigorous and coherent course will deepen their understanding of historical concepts, such as causation, change and continuity, and historical significance, whilst also exposing them to a diverse range of historical experiences, such as the expansion of the British Empire to the Cold War tensions between East and West.
Progression
Throughout their history education at Mowbray Education Trust, students will be supported in developing increasingly sophisticated historical skills and knowledge. Our carefully sequenced curriculum ensures that new content and concepts are introduced in a logical and scaffolded manner, allowing students to make meaningful connections and deepen their understanding over time.
Wider Impact
Through the study of history, our pupils will develop a rich understanding of the past and its relevance to the present. This knowledge, combined with the critical thinking and communication skills they have honed, will equip them to be active and engaged citizens, capable of navigating the complexities of the modern world and contributing positively to their local and global communities.
