Personal Development

Curriculum Intent Overview

At Mowbray Education Trust, we believe that Personal Development is central to preparing our students for life beyond the classroom. Through a comprehensive programme that includes Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education and statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), we support students in becoming confident, respectful, and responsible individuals.

Content and Skills

Our curriculum addresses a broad range of essential topics, including transitioning into secondary school, mental health and wellbeing, puberty and consent, healthy relationships, online safety, stereotypes, and financial literacy. These themes are explored through both timetabled lessons and tutor time, helping students develop a deep understanding of themselves and others, as well as the knowledge and skills needed to navigate an ever-changing world.

Progression

The curriculum is carefully sequenced across Key Stages 3 and 4 to reflect students’ developmental stages and emerging needs. Key topics are revisited and explored in greater depth, ensuring progression in both understanding and maturity. This allows students to consolidate their learning and apply it in increasingly complex contexts.

Wider Impact

Personal Development extends beyond the classroom. Our wider offer includes careers education, SMSC development, citizenship education, enrichment opportunities, and student leadership. Together, these elements help build resilience, empathy, and ambition.

By the time they leave school, our students will be equipped with the knowledge, values, and personal attributes needed to lead safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives, and to make a positive contribution to society.
