Physical Education
Curriculum Intent Overview
At Mowbray Education Trust, we believe that Physical Education (PE) plays a vital role in the holistic development of our pupils. Our PE curriculum is designed to inspire a lifelong love of physical activity and equip our pupils with the knowledge, skill, and values to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
Content and Skills
We aim to foster an enjoyment of physical activity, provide opportunities for pupils to explore a wide range of sports and activities, and support them in excelling to the best of their abilities. By doing so, we will develop confident, competent, and resilient young people who can make positive contributions to their communities.
Our PE curriculum follows an approach, whereby pupils develop a broader range of knowledge and skills beyond just physical competence. Throughout Key Stage 3, pupils will explore topics such as physical literacy, personal development, character development, fulfilling potential, and being active for life. This holistic approach ensures that our pupils gain the cognitive, affective, and physical capabilities to thrive both in and outside of the classroom.
Progression
The sequencing of our PE curriculum is designed to support a smooth transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3, and then into Key Stage 4. Pupils will build upon their prior knowledge and skills, developing techniques, tactics, and strategies in a range of sports and activities. Our curriculum is arranged to align with the stage of the learners' development journey, ensuring that the content remains relevant and engaging.
Wider Impact
Physical Education at Mowbray Education Trust extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. We offer an extensive extracurricular programme that provides equal opportunities for all pupils to participate in competitive and recreational activities. Through these experiences, as well as our focus on developing communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, we aim to nurture well-rounded individuals who can make positive contributions to their communities and lead healthy, active lifestyles.
