Preparation for the new academic year
I hope that you and your family are well and coping during these challenging times.
Getting the communication right is a particular challenge at the moment – we’ve thought long and hard and have decided to separate out the information we’d like to share. We’re going to send you this very ‘need to know’ letter separately from our newsletter which you should receive later in the week.
I am writing to parents, carers and students with some updates in preparation for the new academic year and although not all is certain, I would like to share with you what I can.
New year 7 students are to return to college on Tuesday 25th August and on arrival will be shown which part of the college to go to meet their new tutor group and tutor.
ALL other year groups will return to college on Wednesday 26th August and further information about where they should go will be communicated in the next few weeks.
A reminder that students need to be in their tutor room by 8.45am and our school day will finish at 3pm. Any changes to the timing of the day, based on government advice, will also be communicated during the summer break if needed.
Uniform, including school shoes and jumpers.
The college uniform policy can be accessed on our website. Please familiarise yourself with it so your child is in full correct uniform for the new academic year. Black trainers are now accepted as are black shoes but there should be NO visible logo on the footwear. Additionally, only black V-neck jumpers and black cardigans are acceptable, again with no logo visible. When the cold weather sets in, jumpers can be worn under the school blazer, but should not replace it. Please contact Mr Kruse if you have any queries regarding uniform at [email protected]
Please ensure your child has the correct equipment for the start of the new academic year. As a minimum, students should have a pen, pencil, ruler, and rubber and please ensure they have a suitable college bag for their equipment, books and sportswear.
School Transport 2020/21
If your child is entitled to school transport through Leicestershire County Council, they will be in touch in due course, over the summer holidays. If you have any queries regarding transport provided by LCC or you would like to check to see if your child is eligible, please contact them directly on 0116 305 0002 or [email protected]
We are continuing to run the South Side/A607 service. If you have already been in touch with us to express an interest in this service, we will be in contact with you shortly. Arrangements are just being finalised with the service provider.
Where possible we would encourage your child to walk to school rather than use public transport. Where buses are being used, companies will be expected to adopt a system of protective measures set out by the government.
As per last term arrangements, please do not drive into the car park either at the start or end of the day.
Free school meals vouchers
FSM vouchers will now cover the summer holidays and parents will continue to receive a fortnightly voucher of £30 per student to cover the 6 weeks holiday. The vouchers should be sent on 12th July, 26th July and 9th August. Any issues or queries with vouchers please contact [email protected] email.
Any families that are experiencing financial issues and would like to be added to our food delivery scheme please contact Mr Kruse at [email protected] and he will be able to explain how we can support.
We will continue to update everyone over the summer as more guidance is released and any changes to the information given will be communicated as soon as we are informed so please look out for college social media posts and letters that we may need to send out to families.
Please be reassured that we will do everything we can to catch all students up with the minutes they have lost. I look forward to welcoming students back in the new academic year.
